Superintendent's Update - September 2022
Posted 10/4/22

Dear Hacienda La Puente Unified Community,

September has been a productive and exciting month for Hacienda La Puente Unified, with much to be celebrated across our campuses.

Our students have thrived, focusing on their studies and extracurricular activities, while connecting with their peers and teachers through various District events.

This month, our campuses held parent-teacher conference week, coffee with the principal, Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations, sporting events and the Districtwide College and Career Fair. The District also welcomed Conga Kids to our K-5 campuses, a new District activity for our students that promotes social and emotional wellness, communication and collaboration through partner-dance instruction.

In recognition of Suicide Prevention Month, our school counselors worked with Associated Student Body groups to create awareness campaigns consisting of art installations, informational presentations and wearing yellow ribbons to raise awareness around mental health and suicide prevention. For more information on our mental health and wellness resources, please visit our resource page on the website.

Many of our educators participated in professional developments, including UC Davis C-STEM Academy’s Academy II, which brings teachers one step closer to achieving their computer science supplemental credential. We also held a New Pedagogies for Deep Learning (NPDL) training featuring NPDL’s lead international presenter Max Drummy, delivering presentations to inspire and implement deep learning strategies every day for our students.

As we move forward into the school year, we will focus on continuing to implement innovative educational opportunities for our students. We look forward to what October has in store for our students, teachers, staff and community! As always, we are #proudtobeHLPUSD!

Sincerely, Dr. Alfonso Jiménez
